RESOURCE NOTES

Just how much do people across the world spend on food each week?

This PowerPoint presentation has been making the rounds on the Internet lately.

It may be useful for reflection material to help us prepare for the presence of God this season. Christmas is often perceived as the season to spend. I will be using this during Advent to help us get a sense of perspective looking at matters of food and our justice footprints on the earth.

While not specifically related to any of the readings for Advent I think it does tie in with the Isaiah readings as well - each week being about what the movement of God will look like. For example, I think "peace" (eg wolf lying down with the lamb etc) depends as much on people paying attention to the systemic injustices we are perpetuating, as much just liking the sweet sound of everyone getting on with one another.

Oh, and by the way, it can be a loose off shoot of the idea that John ate locusts and wild honey. :-)

In doing some research we have found that the images were clearly sourced from the book Hungry Planet: What the World Eats by Peter Menzel and Faith D’Aluisio www.menzelphoto.com
